April showers bring.. new breastfeeding bags!

OK, well it wasn’t raining because we live in Arizona. But it was beautiful weather for our bag stuffing event this past Saturday. We got there early to get a Ramada and set up for the fun to begin. Seriously, this is the best part of this job!

Meredith and her two daughters came to help stuff and to add a flyer and a fruit snack into the bag. She runs the Baby Boot Camp in South Chandler and South Gilbert. Heather, Myrna and Tanya were there too with their families. Heather and Tanya even donated the disposable nursing pads you will find in the bags. Thank you very much ladies! They were super fast stuffers and within an hour (with some nursing breaks) they had 200 bags stuffed. Here’s a little peek at what’s inside the April AZ Breastfeeding Bag:

Our next bags will be filled in June. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for the event announcement. We would love to have your help! Send us an email at AZBFBP@gmail.com if you are interested in being a featured advertiser in our bags. Click the “Bags” page and scroll down for the order form if you would like to order an AZ Breastfeeding Bag. 🙂 Happy Breastfeeding!

The Bump to Breast Fest

We spent the day today at the Arizona Breastfeeding Center, participating as a vendor in their Bump to Breast Fest. It was a fantastic event! There were classes every hour from baby wearing yoga, infant massage, milk circle, hospital births the way you want, going back to work and breastfeeding and even a post partum belly dance class. There were car seat safety checks, doulas, snacks, and free massages from Massage Envy Spa in Gilbert.

It was a joy to meet so many new mothers, see all the baby wearing and hear all the breastfeeding stories. There’s really nothing else we love to talk about here at the project! Almost everyone we met had a story about how Arizona Breastfeeding Center helped them, this place is a wonderful resource and I would highly recommend checking them out if you are expecting a baby any time soon. They hold a breastfeeding 101 class you can register for here. We hope that every woman will be able to breastfeed with no problems but sometimes that’s not the case and it’s nice to know there is a place like this where truly genuine IBCLC’s want to help you.

Thank you Desiree and Jenny for including us today. We had a wonderful time! Be on the look out for more partnerships between the AZ Breastfeeding Bag Project and the Arizona Breastfeeding Center.

We also held a raffle today for a 2 hour lactation consult with the Arizona Breastfeeding Center, generously donated by them. The winner was ticket # 123067 Jenn B. Congratulations!

Have you been to the Arizona Breastfeeding Center? Did you receive outstanding care? We’d love to hear your story in the comments below!

The Mommy and Me photoshoot fundraiser

We had our Mommy and Me photoshoot with Kristen Carter Photography fundraiser yesterday. Whew! I’m glad these are only once a year, I’m exhausted. I can only imagine how tired Kristen is, she did all the hard work. Nevertheless, the event was a huge success! The weather was gorgeous- 83 degrees and sunny with a slight breeze. The location was perfect for the kids and the Arizona desert scenery was beautiful at the Riparian Preserve. We saw bunnies, birds, lizards, mice, a beaver and even two horses. The flowers were in bloom and the ducks and geese were roaming around.

Kristen and I got there early to set up. She had brought her camera, props, water bottles donated by Meredith Carder of Baby Boot Camp South Chandler and South Gilbert and jewelry by Premier Designs for the moms to wear in the pictures.

All the moms (and dads) showed up and everything went off without a hitch! I got to see some sneak peeks of the pictures on Kristen’s camera and they were all beautiful. I loved meeting our fans face to face and to see some old friends with new babies! Thank you for coming out and sharing your beautiful families with us. I hope you love your pictures as well. Kristen Carter Photography will be posting sneak peeks starting today (seriously, this woman is amazing!) so be sure you like her Facebook Page so you don’t miss them! I will also be sharing some of the pictures here so check back in a few weeks!

We raised over $700 yesterday and all of that money is going to buy bags for our April bag stuffing (Sat, April 4th 10am at Kiwanis Park in Tempe) and the June bag stuffing (location/time tbd). These are public events and we would love to see you there, see what we do, help us if you’d like and grab a breastfeeding bag for yourself/ family member or friend too.

Behind the scenes: a bag stuffing

Our bags are filled with love (and other things that moms will like)

Here’s a quick recap of our afternoon stuffing bags. I will be writing a longer post for each item that we put in our bags so be sure to comment below if you have any questions about a particular item that you see!

We believe that moms can breastfeed without any help- but it’s nice to see some of the products and services that are offered in case you feel like you need help. We try to add only things that are helpful to breastfeeding moms in Arizona. We do sell five advertising spots in our bags for a donation to our project. Comment, email or facebook message us if you want to be featured in our awesome AZ Breastfeeding Bag!

Also, of course we had a nursing break!!

Thank you Sasha and Holly for filling all 200 bags today! These are going to Babymoon Inn, Morning Star OB, The Birth Haven, St Joseph Center for Women’s Health, Freedom and the Seed Midwifery, a few doulas and individual mailers. If you would like to order bags please use our order form on “the bags” page or send us an email or a message.

If you want to be invited to the next bag stuffing event scheduled for April 4th send us an email or a message. If you want to help us by donating supplies we are in need of flannel fabric (for the nursing pads), printer ink, computer paper, disposable nursing pads, breastmilk storage bags and sandwich bags. All can be mailed to AZ breastfeeding Bag Project PO Box 5701, Mesa AZ 85211.

Our hearts are filled with love as we fill each bag, knowing that it is going to help and motivate breastfeeding women in Arizona. This is definitely the best part of our jobs!

Thank you!!!
